The Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) is one of 14 ministries of the Federal Republic of Germany and as such a supreme federal authority. Its primary seat is in Berlin.
The Foreign Office currently manages 227 missions abroad, 153 of which are embassies, 54 are consulates-general and 7 are consulates. About 3,000 staff members of the Foreign Service work in the German missions abroad. They are supported by 5,500 locally employed staff and 1,200 staff members temporarily seconded to the Foreign Office from other Federal Ministries, the Länder, the business community and other institutions.
Since 2008, our partner office ABP I LÖ has been supporting the Foreign Office in the management of the necessary modernization of the technical infrastructure in various missions abroad, primarily in conflict areas.
